 Risks of Lasik

Many problems may occur after a lasik surgery:
The worst thing possible is when a patient loses his vision after a surgery.

It may also happen that a patient loses lines of vision, that can not be corrected with another surgery or glasses or contact lenses.
As there is no long term data about lasik surgeries available, one can not make a statement on the long term safety of Lasik.

Other risks of Lasik:

- Patients may be over or undertreated. This may lead to the fact that some patients still need glasses or contact lenses after surgery.

- Some patients may develop glare or other debilitating vision symptons. The biggest problem for theses patients occurs in moments of low contrast, f.x. in the night – as the glare also reduces contrast.

- Some farsighted patients will have diminishing results with age.

- For patients with large refractive errors, the results of a surgery a most likely worse than for patients with smaller vision errors.

- Some patients have reported to suffer of a permanent dry eye syndrome after a surgery. The is that the eye may not be able to produce enough tears to water the eye. Because of that some patients may require eye or other therapies.
